New album context: what the band says about the record
The tour follows the release of AFI’s twelfth studio album, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun… The record arrived roughly two months before the new routing was revealed.
Frontman Davey Havok described the album as a creative reset. He said the band aimed to push into fresh territory to regain excitement. Havok also noted that his relationship to this record felt unusual; he could listen to it after completion with a sense of distance, as if he weren’t part of its making.
Media appearances and deeper conversations
AFI has been active in the press cycle around the album. Havok spoke with Rolling Stone Australia about the group’s desire to explore new sounds. He also took part in a two-part conversation on the HardLore podcast, where the band’s history and recent work were examined at length.
The band also featured on the cover of Alternative Press this year. In that interview, Havok discussed the band’s legacy and the sonic choices behind the new album.
