Gojira has announced a change to its upcoming European run after frontman Joe Duplantier injured his hand and required surgery. The band will press on with a temporary guitarist filling Duplantier’s live guitar duties while he recovers and continues as lead vocalist.
Joe Duplantier injured his hand and will sit out guitar parts
Duplantier shared images of an X-ray and surgery recovery on social media. The injury forced a minor operation, and he won’t be able to perform all guitar parts for several shows.

Despite the setback, Duplantier will keep singing from the stage while the band adjusts the live lineup. The group described the mood as positive as they prepare to play for French audiences.
Who’s stepping in: Greg Kubacki from Car Bomb
Gojira recruited New York technical metal guitarist Greg Kubacki to cover the guitar parts Duplantier can’t play. Kubacki is best known for his work with the band Car Bomb.
The band framed the move as calling on a friend to help out, and fans can expect Kubacki to handle Duplantier’s live guitar role while the singer focuses on vocals.
What this means for the live show
- Joe Duplantier will remain the band’s frontman and perform all vocal duties.
- Greg Kubacki will take over guitar responsibilities on affected dates.
- Gojira says its crew and touring lineup are upbeat and ready to deliver the shows.
