Fortoberfest 2018

On September 15th the Downtown Business Association, with the support of the Bohemian Foundation, will host its annual Fortoberfest in Old Town Square, Fort Collins. This family-friendly event will feature seasonal microbrews from Odell and some authentic German cuisine.

German culture has long been a part of Fort Collins. Beginning in 1902, sugar companies along the Front Range sponsored hundreds of Volga Germans to come to Northern Colorado to work in Fort Collin’s new sugar factory and farm sugar beet fields. The neighborhoods Buckingham and Andersonville/San Christo were originally built as housing for sugar factory workers, who were primarily of German-Russian heritage. The North-South orientation of the street and East-West orientation of the houses in the Buckingham neighborhood is a replication of a traditional Volga village layout. The impact of the sugar factory on Fort Collins was so profound that it is estimated that a majority of the town’s prosperity in the early years was a result of the cultivation of sugar beets.

Now that you have had your history lesson for the day, enjoy the lineup. Hopefully, we will see you there!

4:00PM – CRESCENT CITY CONNECTION

This Fort Collins-based band was born out of the respective members’ deep love for the sounds of New Orleans and the Louisiana swamp!  With roots planted firmly in the Crescent City, this 6-piece powerhouse serves up the finest Louisiana funk the Colorado front range can offer.

5:30PM – CARY MORIN

A critically acclaimed performer and international touring artist based out of Fort Collins, Cary has been described as “one of the best acoustic pickers on the scene today.” Cary’s fingerstyle acoustic guitar arrangements, songwriting, and soulful singing bring together the great musical traditions of America to create a unique live performance genre that Cary refers to simply as, “Native Americana,” pulling from blues, bluegrass, jazz, jam, reggae, and dance. His new 2018 release, “When I Rise,” will be available October 26th.

7:00PM – TAYLOR SCOTT BAND

Taylor Scott’s guitar gunslinging has steadily pushed his band to the forefront of the Colorado live music scene, with recent support dates for Los Lobos, and Grammy-winner, Henry Garza (Los Lonely Boys), guest starring on the soon-to-be-released new Taylor Scott Band record.  An original rock and roll band heavily influenced by funk and soul music, frontman Taylor Scott is also an international touring artist and songwriter now based in Denver. Get ready, as this band will be bringing funk, soul and high-level musicianship to Old Town Square as the sun goes down!

8:30PM – THE PATTI FIASCO

Riding the momentum of their recent performance at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest opening for Blondie, and a date at Pepsi Arena in support of Bon Jovi, The Patti Fiasco is ready to deliver their brash, yet fiercely soulful brand of rock and roll to Fortoberfest!  The band was formed at a Wyoming open mic in 2008 and has been taking the Rocky Mountain West by storm ever since; with the charismatic Alysia Craft on display as the frontwoman and bandleader, be ready for a heavy dose of rockabilly, blues and a packed dance floor in front of the Old Town Square stage!
