Since our friends at Bohemian Foundation, Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, and 105.5 The Colorado Sound have put together Sonic Spotlight, a virtual music showcase aimed at highlighting emerging talent in the area, we decided to resurrect a classic feature called Pleased To Meet You, The (once print only) interview series where we find fresh talent in the area and give them a shout out.
Read More below about how to get involved in our virtual events and panels like Sonic Spotlight and stay up-to-date with Macy Warner and other local artists by signing up for our newsletter on our about page.
Who are you, where are you from, and what’s your band/artist name?
My name is Macy Warner. I am a Singer/Songwriter from Loveland Colorado. Right now I am a freshman at the University of Colorado, Denver, in the Music Business Department.
Are you excited to be part of Sonic Spotlight?
I am ecstatic to be a part of Sonic Spotlight! Learning about production and marketing, meeting with influential and inspiring music industry professionals, and meeting peers who are doing the same thing as me is very motivating and encouraging!
What venue was/is your favorite place to perform as a band?
My favorite shows to play are intimate venues, such as SoFar shows. The only SoFar show I had the opportunity to play before COVID was at a beautiful old victorian home in the heart of downtown Denver. I felt that my lyrics were being truly heard and understood by the attentive audience. It was one of the best nights of my life!
Who are the local bands that you look up to?
Maya Bennet was the artist that introduced me to the Northern Colorado music scene. Before I met her, I had no idea that I could play my songs for people, and they would enjoy them! She exposed me to open mic nights, playing gigs, and the begging steps to being an artist. I also look up to the Denver artist, Shelly Rollison, who goes by the pseudonym of, Our Daughter. Shelly is a boss female producer, and has encouraged me to start producing my own music!
What record (from any artist) is one that you love the most?
The record that I’ve been spinning the most as of late is “Lady in Satin” by Billie Holiday. I have just recently been discovering my intense love for her music, and for jazz music alike!
Who do you want to play a show with someday?
In my wildest dreams, I would open up for the artist, “Lianne La Havas”, who is an Indie/ RnB/ Jazz fusion artist!
Who are the other artists you are excited to see/hear from that are participating in Sonic Spotlight?
I am excited to hear all of these artists’ songs, they are all incredibly talented and unique in their own ways! I really love Hotel Wifi’s music! Particularly the lyrics of their songs are what really captivates me. They tell stories from a unique perspective, and I enjoy the imagery they use. I am also excited to hear Miranda Fling‘s song! Her vocals and harmonies are gorgeous and haunting.
What are your plans for the future?
I am excited about the future. My path seems to unfold step by step in front of me, with no real direction that I can plan. Right now, I am in school to learn as much as I can about the music business and industry, while also developing my voice as an artist, and build connections with other students who are also musicians and performers. I hope to continue to grow my skills as a songwriter, and producer, and become more confident in my abilities as time goes on!
Sonic Spotlight is a brand-new virtual music showcase and competition brought to you by Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, 105.5 The Colorado Sound, and Bohemian Foundation.
Selected artists and bands will get a chance to work with industry experts, connect with creative peers, receive radio airplay, create a professional music video, win prizes, and level up their music.
This fall, Sonic Spotlight presents two virtual showcases featuring some of the region’s most talented emerging musicians. The Sonic Round kicks things off with never-before-heard radio-ready tracks from all 8 artists taking over the airwaves on 105.5 The Colorado Sound and 90.5 KCSU. The program then culminates in the Spotlight Round, which will debut music videos from each finalist created during the program with professional support in an exciting, interactive online broadcast.
A panel of music industry veterans will be present throughout the program and will determine which artists advance, and ultimately which finalist is named winner of Sonic Spotlight 2020.
All Sonic Spotlight showcases, mentorship sessions, and artist opportunities will be held virtually.
