Pleased To Meet You: Noah Orlowski

Since our friends at Bohemian Foundation, Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, and 105.5 The Colorado Sound have put together Sonic Spotlight, a virtual music showcase aimed at highlighting emerging talent in the area, we decided to resurrect a classic feature called Pleased To Meet You, The (once print only) interview series where we find fresh talent in the area and give them a shout out.

Read More below about how to get involved in our virtual events and panels like Sonic Spotlight and stay up-to-date with Noah Orlowski and other local artists by signing up for our newsletter on our about page.

Who are you, where are you from, and what’s your band/artist name?

My name is Noah Orlowski, I am a singer/ songwriter and instrument maker from Berthoud, Colorado.

Are you excited to be part of Sonic Spotlight?

I am unbelievably excited to be a part of Sonic Spotlight because it’s the first time I’ve ever had a genuine opportunity to do something with my music.

What venue was/is your favorite place to perform as a band?

I’ve never really gotten to play my music live outside of two open mics, but if I could play anywhere, I’d absolutely choose to play on the roof of MCA Denver.

Who are the local bands that you look up to?

I look up to a lot of local bands, especially those on the Deckhead and Group Hug labels. In particular, I really look up to The Savage Blush, Serpentfoot, Down Time, and Marti and the Dads (the Dads are broken up now, but all still active in the local scene). All of them make music that I love, a lot of their music has gotten me through a lot of weird times, their shows are always insanely fun, and they’re all pretty cool people.

What record (from any artist) is one that you love the most?

When people ask me what my favorite album is, the first one that comes to mind is usually “The Three EP’s” by The Beta Band. I found out about them through some weird playlist on Pandora when I was 14 or 15, and I’ve loved them ever since. “The Three EP’s” is an album that you kind of have to listen to from beginning to end in order to fully appreciate the work of art that it is, but I think it’s absolutely worth appreciating.

Who do you want to play a show with someday?

I really want to put a band together and play a heavy, dirty, garagey, doomy set of all my songs; and I think it would be super cool to play that show as the opener for a band like Thee Oh Sees or Ty Segall or something.

Who are the other artists you are excited to see/hear from that are participating in Sonic Spotlight?

I really love the music of everyone else in Sonic Spotlight and I’m super excited to hear what everyone puts out, but I think I’m most excited to hear new songs from Hotel WiFi and Miranda Fling.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m currently working on my fourth LP which I’m hoping to release some time around New Year’s. I’d like to start playing shows as soon as possible, but I think I’m going to try and refine the songs I most enjoy playing before I do anything else. My song composition is constantly getting more intricate and I’m always looking for weird and unusual sounds that I can incorporate into my music, so right now it’s just a matter of figuring out how to make it all work in a live setting.

Selected artists and bands will get a chance to work with industry experts, connect with creative peers, receive radio airplay, create a professional music video, win prizes, and level up their music.

This fall, Sonic Spotlight presents two virtual showcases featuring some of the region’s most talented emerging musicians. The Sonic Round kicks things off with never-before-heard radio-ready tracks from all 8 artists taking over the airwaves on 105.5 The Colorado Sound and 90.5 KCSU. The program then culminates in the Spotlight Round, which will debut music videos from each finalist created during the program with professional support in an exciting, interactive online broadcast.

A panel of music industry veterans will be present throughout the program and will determine which artists advance, and ultimately which finalist is named winner of Sonic Spotlight 2020.

All Sonic Spotlight showcases, mentorship sessions, and artist opportunities will be held virtually.
