My name is Miranda Fling and I was born and raised in Colorado. I moved to Fort Collins three years ago to attend CSU.
I am so pumped to be a part of Sonic Spotlight because I have so much to learn, not only about making music but about being a part of a local music community and building connections through that as well.
I’ve actually never performed original music at a venue. I am, however, comfortable performing in front of large crowds due to my theater & national anthem experience. Due to covid (and the fact that I just started producing my own music in 2020), I have only performed my original music a handful of times in front of small crowds.
I am pretty new to the music scene in Fort Collins, however, thanks to Sonic Spotlight, I have come to know of a few more local bands. I can honestly say though, that I have been really inspired by the other artists in Sonic Spotlight and have looked up a lot to the ways in which they each individually engage with their audience through social media and other platforms.
It is hard for me to choose a favorite album, but one that I would say I have been heavily influenced by Pure Heroine by Lorde. I listened to this album at a young age and was drawn to Lorde’s vocal style and harmonies. I also look up to her lyrics and appreciate how she writes in a poetic yet relatable and tangible manner.
My pipe dream artist that I would love to play a show with someday is Gracie Abrams because I feel like we have similar styles and target audiences. However, thinking in a short term trajectory, I would love to play a show with any of the other artists who are a part of Sonic Spotlight!
I am SO pumped to hear what all of the other artists are showcasing! I am so excited to hear Woozy by Macy Warner – I’ve been listening to her other releases and have been loving them. That being said, I have been following the other participants closely and love everything they have been releasing as well!
Sonic Spotlight has caused me to completely rethink the way I am approaching music. Though I still consider it a hobby that I love and am deeply passionate about, Sonic Spotlight has allowed me to explore some other possibilities such as actually performing live and pursuing music as a career. At this point, I still consider myself a little hesitant to fully pursue music, but throughout this year, I have gained a lot of confidence in my music. I also plan on releasing my first EP no later than January 2021!
Sonic Spotlight is a brand-new virtual music showcase and competition brought to you by Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, 105.5 The Colorado Sound, and Bohemian Foundation.
Selected artists and bands will get a chance to work with industry experts, connect with creative peers, receive radio airplay, create a professional music video, win prizes, and level up their music.
This fall, Sonic Spotlight presents two virtual showcases featuring some of the region’s most talented emerging musicians. The Sonic Round kicks things off with never-before-heard radio-ready tracks from all 8 artists taking over the airwaves on 105.5 The Colorado Sound and 90.5 KCSU. The program then culminates in the Spotlight Round, which will debut music videos from each finalist created during the program with professional support in an exciting, interactive online broadcast.
A panel of music industry veterans will be present throughout the program and will determine which artists advance, and ultimately which finalist is named winner of Sonic Spotlight 2020.
All Sonic Spotlight showcases, mentorship sessions, and artist opportunities will be held virtually.
