My name is Julia Kirkwood, and I am from Fort Collins, Colorado.
I am super excited to be a part of Sonic Spotlight. I’m really grateful for this opportunity.
My favorite place to perform would definitely be Washington’s. There is always a really great atmosphere, and the stage lights are very colorful. When you perform at Washington’s you know it’s going to be a great and smooth running show. The staff always makes it easy for the artist to just hop on stage and play their heart out.
I really look up to The Burroughs. Their performances are always super high energy and they send a really great message of peace and love through their music. A lot of their songs can really help people sort out the positive and negative, and focus on what really matters while living in the moment.
My favorite song right now would definitely have to be Tiny Dancer by Elton John. It’s honestly just a really feel-good song for me and I love the vibe it gives off.
I would LOVE to play a show with Lady Gaga or Lizzo. They are both strong, confident women that I really look up to.
I have always liked People In General. Their style is unique to anything else I’ve ever listened to, and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table.
I’m 15, so I am still in high school. As of right now, I’m planning on focusing on music, even throughout my college years. I want to continue writing and recording, and hopefully, I will be able to pursue music in some form for the rest of my life.
Sonic Spotlight is a brand-new virtual music showcase and competition brought to you by Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, 105.5 The Colorado Sound, and Bohemian Foundation.
Selected artists and bands will get a chance to work with industry experts, connect with creative peers, receive radio airplay, create a professional music video, win prizes, and level up their music.
This fall, Sonic Spotlight presents two virtual showcases featuring some of the region’s most talented emerging musicians. The Sonic Round kicks things off with never-before-heard radio-ready tracks from all 8 artists taking over the airwaves on 105.5 The Colorado Sound and 90.5 KCSU. The program then culminates in the Spotlight Round, which will debut music videos from each finalist created during the program with professional support in an exciting, interactive online broadcast.
A panel of music industry veterans will be present throughout the program and will determine which artists advance, and ultimately which finalist is named winner of Sonic Spotlight 2020.
All Sonic Spotlight showcases, mentorship sessions, and artist opportunities will be held virtually.
