Pressure Building to Re-Examine Elijah McClain Case

All Eyes On Us.

A petition demanding to hold the powers to be accountable for the murder of Elijah McClain just surpassed 2.4 Million signatures on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Adams County District Attorney is plugging his ears and hoping we all just leave him alone.

The Point: More and more voices are calling out for Adams County District Attorney Dave Young, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman (R), and the Aurora Police Department to conduct a more in-depth investigation and remove the officers involved. Despite the obvious public pressure, and Aurora’s already pretty dinged up reputation considering officer gets-drunk-on-duty-and-falls-asleep-at-the-wheel-in-traffic.

The Problem: Dave Young doesn’t want to seem weak in front of the public, stating that he has no intention to re-examine the case (pending the discovery of new evidence). A classic move, hoping that this will all blow over and we can go back to pretending that “Nothing Happened”

Oh, what now? You say no? Do you think we are all just going to stop and give up? That’s cute.

The Results: Dave Young, 17th Judicial District Attorney who originally cleared the officers involved in detaining McClain of any wrongdoing, has received more than 10,000 emails and 1,000 voicemails regarding the McClain case since June 7, according to spokesperson Sue Lindsay.

Long Term: Calls to the D.A. are not going to slow down, Colorado isn’t going to forget. In an emailed statement provided Tuesday evening, a spokesperson for Gov. Jared Polis urged that Young should endeavor to take action to mend public trust.
