By Ivory Circle – Scalene EP
As a reviewer music, it is essential to be able to overlook less than stellar recordings and assess the art. That being said, it would be impossible to review Scalene EP by Ivory Circle without acknowledging the stellar production. The instrumentation and dynamics are elaborate and undeniable. That is NOT to imply that this is an album that relies on “studio magic.” Quite the opposite, the content is equally strong. From the lyrics to the delivery and the celestial texturing, this EP is engaging from start to finish. You could say it is “poppy” but more accurately it defies genre with orchestral elements finding a home with rock guitars and electronic manipulations.
