DubSkin’s new album makes a powerful statement with lush soundscapes and rich atmospheres, grounded by solid bass lines and time-honored reggae rhythms. A guest spot from Lyrics Born is a highlight of the album – delivering a steady flow over a downtempo beat with some hard-hitting harmonies from DubSkin lead vocalist, Jamal Skinner. Skinner’s voice is strong and gruff, but he is able to pull back those qualities and sing sweetly when it fits the song. The rest of the band shows similar tact and control, always providing exactly what the song requires. Whether that is a two-chord verse, or an incendiary solo, the band delivers consistently.
